Breading
The Cattle and buffalo population is largest in India, and hence at Mahalakshmi Dairy Farm large importance is given to any Livestock development plans which will help in increasing the production of milk.
This production of milk begins in cows with parturition. For this, the ability to reproduce is believed to be essential in a dairy herd. The dairy farmer can have a larger profit if the cows provide one calf per year.
(i) improved growth rate,

Inbreeding
In this method the breeding is between animals of the same breed for 4-5 generations.
Outbreeding
In this method the breeding is between the unrelated animals of same or different breeds. The outbreeding is also of 2 different types:
Out-crossing
Out-crossing is the mating of animals within the same breed but do not have any common ancestors on either side of pedigree up to 4-6 generations.
Cross breed
In cross breeding the superior males of one breed are mated with the superior females of another breed. This helps in creating new breeds of animals which are developed with the strategy of better progeny.
Interspecific Hybridisation
This kind of breeding involves a male and female of two different species for mutation. The resultant Progeny is usually different from both the parental species or sometimes the desired characteristics of both parents are combined.
Types of Breeding
- Natural breeding : This is the mating of animals by natural means.
- Artificial Insemination : In AI or Artificial Insemination the semen of superior mail is collected and then injected to the female breeder through the reproductive track. In AI one male can be used for mating a large number of females, hence providing a large number of highly productive and performing offsprings.
